well, to start with this car is a little slag! as far as i know it used to belong to Gaz off club polo, paul shears, and nick_mk2 and other owners previous!

i'd heard a few bad things about this car so i was a bit sceptic about wether i should consider buying it or not so me and sam went down to see it and gave it a right going over, checked everything! and apart from a few granny dings and the rust on the tailgate its a pretty tidy car, the engine is sweet as a nut which i was quite surprised about as apparently its done 123k but i know this isnt true because there used to be an ABD engine in the car so im unsure of the actual mileage (any clues there paul Wink)
but yeah there were no leaks/funny noises/creamy substances or anything so i was quite pleased.
nick and i agreed a sale for a bargain price for her and off she went, i picked her up on wednesday (would have been sooner if it werent for the floods)

    some alterations its had:
the throttle body has been de-wedged
lowered 40mm on eibach springs and gmax shocks
    mk2 golf gti brakes
    braided hoses etc
mushroom air filter (shazza-hilfiger in his saxo vtr says this adds 170bhp)
    de-cat

its sitting on some hockenheims from a mk2 polo coupe s, i like these wheels theyre pretty nice.

best thing about my GT is its a bit of a street sleeper, looks pretty bog standard its nice haha Very Happy

ive got a few plans for it, im going to get some lowering top-caps for the front so its sits roughly 55/40 or maybe even get new front springs. also does anybody know if a G40 camshaft can be fitted? without changing the head or anything? i wouldnt even mind getting the hockenheims polished or even painted, if anyones got some pics of these wheels when theyre done nicely would be appreciated...

ive ordered a debadge grill for it, but im unsure now as i quite like it how it is, wouldnt mind some clear indicators for the front!

(ps. my old square is up for sale im taking stupid money for it, i just need rid of it tbh)

anyway, im really happy with the GT Smile here are a few pics, i will add more when the sun shines..

    Dave

(midgets sit very close to the wheel!)

Why bother fitting a g40 camshaft? just get a kent cam or something similar?

    looks good rave!

Would a g40 camshaft work? wouldn't lift and duration be based on forced induction? no expert

    2nd hand/refurbed g40 camshaft would be cheaper

ive heard of it being done on cp, but im not sure what other adjustments would need to be added for it to work properly..

youd have to sort out for the cam - ignition timing, maybe cam timing, and fueling

A cam for an older HH engine (1300 mk1/ some mk2's) cams are supposed to be more aggressive than the stock gt cam!
Chip it, cam it and if you can save for a 4branch, she'l be a screamer!

You will get alot more gain from a kent cam than a g40 cam to be honest with you, even cams on g40s aren't giving it all it has to offer. 190 ain't too steep either for the gains you'll get.

99% sure the mileage on the engine is 2000 more than the clocks say

G40 cam is no good for a GT.........best bet is a re-ground stock cam (145) or a Schrick 268 though Polo Performance (200 in group buy)

But......1.4 ABD conversion maybe better cos to get more power out of a GT you need to get the head ported and get a chip with 8000rpm limit & then rev the thingys off it......which increases wear Sad

1.4 ABD has peak torque lower down the rev range (2500rpm on mine) & with longer ratio box you don't hit the rev limiter in 3rd & 4th all the time

4 branch manifold.......you don't need a stainless one, a mild steel one from Rally Design does the same job (120)
