My golfs long story (new wheel new pics)

Howdy guys just joined up and thought Id put up a post bout my golfs.

Two years ago I decided that my little 1litre mk4 polo wasnt doing it for me any more and decided to go buy a mk2 golf.

Found one that was totally standard exept from a scorpion backbox and no rear spoiler, for the pricey sum of £840.





Got a hold of some updated lighting and a single headlamp grill for free to start things off.





The week after buying the car I was run over and left in the middle of the road with my leg broken in three places, which was nice, so had a bit of time on my hands to plan my next move. As I was totally skint and out of work I started thinking of what I could scrounge from m8s and bits and bobs lying around my m8s garage. A m8 and I chipped in for an old 5 door gti to use for spares which came with a nice set of shiney bbs rims







After alot of hard graft and various foul language they came up not too bad.



Managed to get a few pennies together and got a set of 40mm lowering springs which went on to a set of koni adjustables which had been on a m8s golf and got tyres for the bbs's and a few other wee touches and the golf was starting to look a bit more respectable.









Christmas came and on my list to santa was some crystal lighting to finnish off the front.







Since i got the golf Id been after a set of old skool bmw mim 1900's that another m8 had lying bout and eventually talked him in to parting with them for a reasonable price. They were a bit rough but after the bbs's I wasnt too worried.









Decided to get some decent pics at this stage of me and the car that started this terrible obsession (A9 LYG)



























In November of last year the car was taken off the road for a major rework and now looks like this.




Up until a few months ago the only transport I had was my trusty Transit works van and that almost drove me to tears, so I decided to purchase another mk2.

It had been sitting since October and the owner claimed that the starter motor had died but a new unit was being supplied and the whole car was in need of some major tlc as you can see in the ebay pic.



So after some friendly banter I walked away with this beast for under 400 notes. After a closer inspection and some wiggling of wires (and a new battery) one turn of the key was all that was needed to summon the beast.



Gave the car a quick wash and sorted the mouldy interior and after the first day she was looking not too bad.





As the wheels that were on the car where more like the squareish stone ones sported by the flintstone mobile I decided to stick on a set of mims I had kicking about and give the old lady a little bit of a wash.







I had bought a set of coockie cutters ages ago and they had been lying around along with some fk konigsport coilovers so naturally they had to go on too.



















After a near miss with one of the front adaptors coming loose I have gone off the porsche rims alltogether so Im going back to the mims but with a difference. Hopefully within the next few weeks it should look like this.



But before then Im going to get some desent pics as it is just now.

So if theres anybody left after that , what you think?

Are adapters really that bad - i just bought a set of wheels that are gonna need custom adapters and all people go on about is bad things about them - really putting me off.

Both my front adaptors came loose and they were on tight using loctite and ever since I have always had it in the back of my mind that its going to happen again. The handling on my siver golf is spot on with the fk's but when you are cornering hard all you think about is will the wheels come off. Heard of a lot of similar horror stories too. My adaptors are made by H&R and are suposidly the best as far as quality goes but the thought of custom or two piece adaptors really does scare me.

My misses is studying just now so today I was board and took a trip down to see my m8 and have a rumage through all the spare parts that I store (to his anoyance ) all around his garage.

Decided to refit my single headlamp grill and sort out some red trim round it for now using coach trim, will be painting this later for my black golf.

So thats me one step closer to my plans

Been quite busy lately, got rid of the cookie cutters and have developed the midas touch What do you guys think?







Need to space the rears out about 10mm each side but I think they look rather funky.

Really great story mate, love both your MkII's and your mates. How's work on your black MkII progressing? I'm running Porsche rims on my MkII using hub adapters and touch wood haven't had any problems, but I'm sure as s**t going to check them all now having read this! Take it easy.

MkIISimon - Work on the black one is slow as its being done by a m8 on a "whenever he has time" basis. The roof and engine bay are painted, the dents are all gone and the arches have all been rolled and sealed. Next its engine time and Im having the abf rebuilt before it goes in and before the rest of the car is painted so I dont get any nasty scratches in my nice new paint. Would advise you check the adaptors on a weekly basis m8, cant be arsed to do that for a car that was bought for a bit of fun.

Hardwork - Like the red trim too much to change it now but cool idea.

Geeman - No idea what the rims are, there off an e30 beemer and are made by AMIL. Never seen another set like these which is why I bought them in the first place. So hard to find something different for a mk2. I loved the cookie cutters too m8, they just sat so right in the arches but as I said above this car was bought for fun and to be driven and whats the point of having wheels that come loose every couple of weeks when you want to have some b road action.

Still waiting on spacers but got a chance to polish the turd up today and get a few daylight pics with the new rims. Also made up a blanking plate for the passenger side mirror but will put pics of that up when I get the spacers on and sort out a decent camera.
