    1.8 20vt Cupra MK1 Cab project Empty 1.8 20vt Cupra MK1 Cab project

    Post by Kevin20v Sat Nov 03, 2007 8:43 am

Hej guys, long time no see!

I've started on my mk1 cab 1.8 20vt cupra project Very Happy

Last year I bought a cab which was supposed to be a "fun" car on the sunny days and might even be my gf's first car, but it all went different than planned....

I drove it in the winter and for about 3000km's and one day a Porsche Boxter pulled up besides me and wanted to race (my exhaust sounded optimistic Laughing ), I kind of could keep up, but a few days later the engine died Suspect Laughing bounce

As you guys might allready know I don't like to fool around with used 23 year old stuff, so I just bought a 2000/2001 crashed cupra of a friend.
He's using the body for racing I'm going to use the rest for my mk1 cab!

My boss gave me a space in one of his buildings to use for the cab project, but I have to be out in February/March so I have to be quick to have it at least rolling by then!

Pictures of how I bought it:

    1.8 20vt Cupra MK1 Cab project 8v-007

    1.8 20vt Cupra MK1 Cab project 8v-008

Had a set of 14" banded steelies made and powdercoated them black

    1.8 20vt Cupra MK1 Cab project 8v-016

    1.8 20vt Cupra MK1 Cab project 8v-017

This was the last day it actually drove, lowered the car another 2cm's and put some 1.5cm spacers on the rear and 0.5cm spacers in the front...
Looked pretty good if I can say so myself Laughing
    1.8 20vt Cupra MK1 Cab project 8v-031

Last week I got the key to building I can use for the project so I put it in there and started stripping Smile

Luckely there's no rust at all under the front fenders Very Happy

    The endresult for now:

Hopefully this junk is coming out asap!

Thanks guys!! What a compliments Very Happy

It's not going to be a showcar, but a real driverscar, so apart from the wheels it's going to look about the same (at least untill I can afford a paintjob Laughing)

Thanks guys, you are just the best!

@ Stan: I'm going to keep the factory ECU but hacked so I don't have to use the keys and clock.

Untill now there's no real update, last friday my 93 cab 100mm axles arrived (those are hard to find).
and yesterday I bought a Forge DV004 Dumpvalve Very Happy (I'm going to have the software adjusted for this dumpvalve!)

The steelies have to go unfortunately, they are to small for the G60 brakes I'm going to mount...

BTW: The old 1.8EX engine is propably going to be taken out of the car by friday or saturday! tongue

Thanks Sarah! I'm propably going to take it to E38 Smile

Took the old engine out of the cab today!

My pal Rogek in action helping me with the project!

    1.8 20vt Cupra MK1 Cab project 20vt-011
    Almost there!

    1.8 20vt Cupra MK1 Cab project 20vt-012
The state of the old engine was actually worse then expected, after taking of the exhaust manifold there was oil dripping out of it... (and it wasn't a little bit Laughing)
and the gearbox oil flushed out when I took off an axle :? Laughing
Only had it in the car for 6000km's and 1500km's of that distance was driven by the previous owner... What a shame, but now the car is getting better Laughing

    1.8 20vt Cupra MK1 Cab project 20vt-013
For now I'm only going to clean the engine room and paint it flat black, next year winter the car will propably be completely repainted...
