the cabby is long gone now so heres the new project its a 1978 mk1 golf 1.5 ls automatic with a genuine 32k ont clock, its reet smooth to drive i think im gonna leave it auto for the time being or at least till the novelty wears off, plans are really to just improve on the original i think it would be wrong to overdo it with this one the colour scheme's in my head now, so money permitting its full steam ahead, hope you likey

bit of an update then, seeing as it was what it was, i decided it best the rust be seen to sooner rather than later so vr chris took me to see chris at pearl auto's near withernsea for a quote for some welding and paint it needed new wings ( i sourced a brand new genuine pair within a week) repairs to the front of the sills (where it had been jacked up) rear arches the tailgate de badged and de wipered and new inner wings and a new front panel,
i stripped it myself in a couple of evenings i even took the glass out myself which wasnt as hard as i'd imagined i then borrowed web's's trailor and dragged it to the body shop
    '78 DSC00367
this left me with nothing more to do except trawl ebay for some bling, which is where i got some chrome door pulls and surrounds and some winders i also bought a momo team 280mm steering wheel where to matt e's dismay i took t straight out of the box and attacked it with an 80 grit drill sanding wheel so i could polish it up, this done i decided i didn't like the momo centre badge so i hacked up the original wolfsberg steering wheel centre badge it took some engineering but it was worth it as its my favourite mod on the car
    '78 DSC00420
it came back 3 weeks later (1 week before alltypes) so i had to set about rebuilding it including fitting the glass which was a pig to do on account of the roof lining but after several attemps it came good (big thanks to matt e for helping me) and after a jiggle with the coilies on the rear i reckon it sits about right, so it was all ready for alltypes where to my disbelief it won the best retro mk1 which just about topped off a perfect weekend with the vuu crew cool cult
