    Project White Empty Project White

Post by Geeman on Mon Oct 13, 2008 3:51 am

Dad and I went all the way down to Ipswich on Saturday to pick this up...

It's an '86 Mk2 Golf 1.3 C 4-speed with 76k on the clock with history from an old dear who couldn't drive any more. It's 22 years old and it has no power steering, no central locking, no sunroof, no cigarette lighter, no centre air vents, no centre console, the wipers wipe the wrong way and it's got 'externally adjusted' manual mirrors. It's so under spec'd, it's ace! The best bit about it, in my eyes apart from the condition it's in, is the fact that there's no arch trims or side strips, so no holes to weld up.

Rach has named it already, much to Jez's disgust...! She calls it Diddy (D771YD X) - I don't like it, but I'm sure if she says it enough, it'll stick.

Nothing will be done to it (apart from coilies and rims) until the Jetta goes though. I've got plans, but nothing concrete just yet. Will run it as it is over the winter while I get things ready for it. I've not even looked over that closely. One thing I am a little disappointed about though is that the guy I bought it off ripped out the original interior and put a GTI interior in it's place... so all the original blue stuff has gone. All the carpets, door cards, seats, rear shelf and support and boot carpet have been changed to black. Bummer. I'm sure I can sort it out though...

    Here it is...

    Project White Golf4xh9

    Project White Golf5oj7

Picked it up at 5pm, loaded it up and we were home for 10pm... even with a detour to Bury St Edmunds Hospital for my Dad!

So Sunday saw the Jetta out for a spin. It's been sat for weeks on my drive and I thought I'd take it out and give it a run into the country to meet the Golf...

    Project White Golf2nx7

    Project White Golf1nl8

My Dad has generously offered to look after it for the time being until the Jetta goes and there's room on the drive for it. I think he secretly likes it... he made comments that he wouldn't mind it for himself! Hands off!

    MOT till June next year!

No tax... but there's no point in taxing it while I still have the Jetta.

Plans are for the 2.0 9a 16v to go in it that I was going to put in the Jetta.

I already have a replacement seat set-up for it... and the BBS RM's that were on the Jetta for E38... after a winter re-build in a different colour.

The Jetta was the accessory king of VUU... but the Golf is going the opposite direction... leave it plain and simple... so only wheels and suspension on the outside.

Still not quite sure the direction I'm going to take it in just yet... got 3 colour combos (it's staying white) I need to decide on.

It'll stay White Jez... that's the main reason why I bought it.

It's a toss up between Austin Rover beige, some kind of Blue or a deep Ox-Blood red... or a mixture of the ox-blood and the beige.

But, at the moment... it's just black and white until next year. Wink

Lovely looking base G with bags of potential, your definately going the right way with it though keep it ultra tidy just wheels and coil's, would like to see some chrome strip bumpers on it, as I've said to a few people lately next year is going to be the year of the mk2 really wish I had one right now and must admit since I've been out of work I have contemplated selling the mk5 and getting a nice mk1 or mk2 to try and free up some cash.

Joe... this was first registered on August 1st, 1986. First of the 'D' plates of '86. Will have it looking good for next year... don't worry! Not going to go 'balls out' on the exterior extras... just nice and simple.

You're a cheeky fukker... I'd have to get a Mk1 even older than the one Lee has to get one as old as me!

Mal... not too bad, huh? Will look good with some 'decent' rims and a healthy drop. Wink

Sparkles... I was hoping the original blue interior was still in it, but the guy I bought it off had ripped it out, dumped it and replaced it with a full GTi interior... even the carpet. Gutted.

We'll see what I can do... got plans!

Now that I didn't expect. I thought you'd like the orange repeaters... but you're right, the wing repeaters do stand out a lot against the white.

id say lose them completely gee like the you-know-which-one Wink
because i think clear might be to much of a throw back customisation for this smooth little mk2

    That was the plan... Wink

In the short term though, they'll stay as they are until it goes in for paint. Then there'll be some subtle smoothing happening.

Not till next year bud. No point in painting it for the winter to have it stood outside in the snow, etc. I need to get the 'new' garage built so I can get it inside to strip it and get the plans in motion.

Brand spanking new front chrome-trim bumper bought off ebay... just got to find a rear one to match now. Unfortunately Nick sold his bumpers before I could get my sticky mitts on them.

Thanks for the offer of the side badges bud... will take you up on them if that's okay. I'll have to come over with a van at this rate to pick up all the parts you've offered me! Embarassed
