Yeah, I got that... so how do I stop it sounding...? Just disconnect the lead from the sender unit?

But remember... this is a 1.3 and the low oil pressure sender ain't on the side... it's at the back alongside the high pressure sender unit. I've already replaced both sender units.

    i wouldn't mate.as you wouldn't know if it lost it's oil pressure.

Do you know anyone with a oil pressure tester that can test the oil pressure for you ? a garage might do it for you for a couple of quid.

it's only a case of unbolting the pressure sender and connecting the gauge up.

If you're happy the pressure's OK and want a temporary solution I think if you earth the wire coming from the sender then it shuts the buzzer up

Trouble is, I'm not happy that the oil pressure IS okay.

I've just flushed it out and refilled the oil again. Not had the car out to test it as I decided I was going to drain the coolant too... but went to fill it back up again and got just under 2 litres of antifreeze in it and it was full... ran it and no drop in level, so there's obviously a blockage somewhere. Left the car in Louth and I'll go back and spend the day on it on Sunday to try to sort the problems out with it. By then, I'll have an oil pressure tester to use.

It'll be okay... there's no rush (yeah, right!)

I wouldn't be too worried about this, the amount of coolant they quote in the manual to fill it will be from completely dry to full. The heater matrix and part of the block will have retained some coolant when you flushed it, or there could be an air lock somewhere. As long as the level's not dropping dramatically and it's not overheating it should be OK. Does the heater blow hot when the engine's warmed up?

I think the engine would be noticeably rattling/making a din if you were experiencing a significant loss of oil pressure. Like you say an oil pressure test would be good for peace of mind. Here's a tester kit, but at 100 it's a bit steep:

Yeah... already researched the price of oil pressure testers. Going to borrow one for Sunday I think...!

I ran the engine (only to move the car) with the bottom hose off, so I know it was all empty of coolant (water pump would have pumped it all out). Unless of course the water pump is knack'd!

Will get a new thermostat today (might as well while I've got the coolant out) and will flush it all out on Sunday (block, heater matrix, radiator, etc) to make sure there's no blockages.

I don't think the water pump would empty the heater matrix, the matrix acts as a 'sump' in the system so holds some water all the time, and once there's no water round the pump impeller it stops pumping.

The coolant on my old 1300 was just rusty water, and once I changed that and the thermostat it was fine. If you flush the block radiator and the matrix top to bottom and bottom to top until clear water's running out you shouldn't have any blockages.

Post by Geeman on Thu Jan 08, 2009 4:31 am

Yep... that's what I'm gonna do. Just ordered all the parts (waterpump, timing belt, alternator belt & thermostat) on top of the oil pump and filter and oil... so it's a fun day on Sunday for me! Oil out again and new pump fitted along with new coolant system!

Even though I emptied pure antifreeze into the coolant reservoir, the water came up to the top as brown and rusty coloured... so it's desperate for a flush! Only wasted 2 on the coolant, so no real biggee.

***note*** it's much cheaper to buy 5 individual litres of antifreeze in Morrisons than it is to buy a 5-litre tub elsewhere! Morrisons only charge 1 per litre. Result. (thanks to Jez for pointing this out)

    Gee,

I thought I'd try and help you out a bit and hopefully give you some well guided inspiration on the direction you might want to consider heading in with project white? Pay particular attention to the exceptional quality of the body kit and paint, it's unique! The stance is truly amazing too, I think they've got it spot on, it's very 2009.

Project White up for sale now, to make way for this masterpiece!

Seriously though, I've been thinking about moving it on. Can't have both the Golf and the Jetta at the same time...

If someone is seriously interested in it, then please get in touch.

Don't want to have to let it go as I've got great plans for it... but the whole Jetta scenario is beginning to pi55 me off somewhat.

Man, that's a real shame mate, sorry to hear that! Fingers crossed you'll shift the Jetta and be able to crack on with project white as you intended.

I know this might sound daft and I'm sure you've probably thought of it anyway, but it might be worth banging the Jetta on PistonHeads again now that Christmas is out of the way and people are starting to think about cars again?

So... it's still playing up. I really don't know what's wrong with it, so I'm just going to leave it for now until I rip it to bits. The Jetta will be coming online again now, unless it sells fairly quickly.

I'm a bit disappointed with it really... but it'll be okay in the long-run. Cool
