ain't touch the car last night or tonight Embarassed

got a load of bits off Ed (Superted)........main useful bits are rear beam & front wishbone/ARB mounts

going to clean them up and paint them black......idea is if i keep thing clean & tidy the car will be nicer to work on

still need to source a front ARB........sold the one i had to Devo age's ago

poly bushes arrived & i found the stainless steel rear ARB clamps i bought ages ago.........these are easier to fit than the standard VW one's

    NEW PROJECT - mk1 Golf Driver - Page 2 Qazxsw008

front shocks should arrive tomorrow.........still got to get new front top mounts & ball joints, as well as new nuts/bolts

i'm surprized how quick the bay cleaned up.........i got some "Hyper Clean" de-greaser from Andrew Page motor factors, flipping good stuff

not after a "show quality" bay.......just a clean bay, so i don't get grafted every time i work on the car

Made no updates for a while…….been getting the Orange Polo ready for selling

Managed to do a few bits and pieces though

Got myself a GTI rear beam, going to clean it up and spray it black

    NEW PROJECT - mk1 Golf Driver - Page 2 22october2007018

Cut through the clamps for the ARB, there a pain in the bum……I’ve got some custom made stainless steel clamps to replace them, may even buy a set of Eibach ARB’s instead of using standard GTI bars Twisted Evil

    NEW PROJECT - mk1 Golf Driver - Page 2 22october2007019

Rear beam bush bracket thingies…….going to clean them up and fit poly bushes in them

    NEW PROJECT - mk1 Golf Driver - Page 2 22october2007005

Rebuilding the front brakes…..they have been on 2 of my cars over the past 7 years or so, all I have ever done to them is paint them orange & then red Embarassed

There now’t special…..calipers are mk2 Scirocco, carriers are mk2 Golf……this gives better clearance for my ATS Classic’s (Manta rims)

Fitting new “Goodridge” style flexi hoses too

    NEW PROJECT - mk1 Golf Driver - Page 2 9thNovember2007004
    NEW PROJECT - mk1 Golf Driver - Page 2 9thNovember2007005

Disks & pads will go again……..enough meat left in them for another track day Very Happy

Works sort of ground to a halt......here my excuse's

    excuse no.1......

i've been hoping to get the V5 for the car, but the previous owner can't find it, so i'm off to see the DVLA in Beverley on Monday to sort it out........it's going to take about 4 weeks to come through and cost me £25

    excuse no.2......

£££ is has run out........cashflow should be sorted soon though, polo should be going today & i've got some more £££ coming to me beginning of December

    excuse no.3.......

it's VERY cold out the back of my house this time of year cos of the direction my house faces, the small amount of sun we get this time of the year is only on the front of my house

    *****

anywho, i'm off work for 3 days next week, so i should be able to get some of the parts i already have fitted during the day & make a bit of progress

sadly though........i don't think it will be on the road til the beginning of January at the soonest

    got some more bits sorted

CD changer/tape player......very old model, i had the model below this in my first VW about 12 years ago

    NEW PROJECT - mk1 Golf Driver - Page 2 15thFeb2008001

i got a Wolfsberg steering a while back.....was cheap cos the horn push is missing

started looking for something to fit it & saw a Vauxhall Corsa horn push on eBay......thought to myself the Nova has a Corsa steering wheel, measured it, too small Sad .....but the horn push Nova SR wheel i got from Jacko's scrapyard is spot on size Very Happy

changed the blue ring on it for a black rubber oring, removed the Vauxhall badge & made a plastic circle for the centre (putting a VW sticker on it)

still too cold out the back of my house to do anything on it

theres now a larger door on Matt's second unit (thanks mr spen)

so, waiting for Matt to turn up at my house with a car trailer and we'll take the car up there

once it's there he's sorting the rusty bits & i'm going to do as much as i can on it (without getting in his way)

it's not getting a full respray this year, Matt's just painting below the waistline strip/stripe/trim thingy........i'll get him to do a full respray next year, just tidy it up more than out, i don't want it too nice cos it will get stonechips on it on trackdays, it live's outside & used in winter

got nearly everything to finish it really, shopping list is pretty short now

    speakers for the doors
    front brake caliper seals
    black badge for the grille
    high level rear brake light
    some form of side repeaters
    service bits for the engine
rubber mounts for the oil cooler

once it's on the road it will "evolve" as all my car's do (& as most peoples cars do)

    thinking about nitrous Twisted Evil

It's off to our Matt's unit today..... if anyone wants it call Matt on 07966 915541
