Madame MK1- updated with pics!!

I havent got a thread up about my car!!
Will try get some pics this weekend when we'v clean her!(im hoping that ive got the memory cards at home with all these pictures on and that they werent in the camera case that got "misplaced" at ultimate dubs otherwise this threads useless)

History:

Shes a MK1 golf CL 1272

Got her in 2003 and she was a mess, she was green allover cos she'd been sat under a tree, the interior was mouldy, but she had 60,000 miles on her and was pretty much solid, She was a Birthday present from my ex fiance's sister and her husband.Started first turn of the key after being sat for 3 years doing nothing!

Original intention was to Stick a BBS Body kit on her, Zender spoiler etc and have her resprayed blue! Then I joined DemonVW, and saw the light, I changed my mind and went for standard ish look- cos lets face it when you get given a completely original car with loads of shiney chrome extra's in comparatively good nick you dont wanna go spoiling it. I replaced all the door cards and the parcel shelf with unmolested ones.

Took her up on the ramps at a mates garage and he had a good poke about and said its the tidiest mk1 he's seen in 10 years! BONUS!

So we took about the task of stripping her ready for respray [pic] and realised i needed a replacement wing! hmm.... that was the only panel that needed replacing, I went over her with a fine tooth comb and got every single rust spot (stone chips mainly) and bubble, took it to bare metal, Kurusted it, acid etched and primed it ready for respray- we also had an unfortunate accident with a motorbike which left a whacking great scratch down the rear quarter, so i had a pop at repairing that and by all accounts did a good job!

Had her repsprayed in 2005 and the 1st time I saw her all one colour I actually cried... It was a beautiful day! lol.

It took me almost 5 months to put everything back on, with a lot of help from Oli, StuG and Jez (not this jez,a different one!) and Weeman. Cos i lived so far away from the garage I didn't get chance to work on her v often.

So there she was back to standard.Flew thru her MOT in january 2006 (failed on a windscreen wiper!!)

And then the real stuff started.... improving on an already beautiful classic.

Crystal Headlights
smoked indicators- that sit quite discreetly in the grey and chrome trimmed bumpers!
Smoked rears,lights
German Plates- but i changed my mind and got some riveted 3D ones, altho i might get some more without the D on them.



since then:

Chrome sunroof deflector,
interior handles and window winders repalced with chrome ones,

nothing major has really been done, its all been about maintenance really. ive spent a fortune on that!

Still to come
This year intend to:

Replace interior/have it retrimmed. I know what I want, I just have to find the material!

Get my wheels sorted out once and for all!

Get roofrack finished and fitted.

It does look tidy there, any plans on changing the wing mirrors?? (With the chrome trim)

i thought abut it but i dunno if it would be overkill. beides ther about £90 a pair I NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED to get that chrome windscreen trim replaced. iv got both front and rears- but ther nigh on impossible to fit, and i dont wanna have to shell out £25 for a tool to use once.

am in landlords bad books cos im spotting oil allover driveway. god knows where from, ill hav it steam cleaned n keep an eye on it.

DOH!! forgot to mention my coilovers! FK Highsports, we are lowered about 80mm at the mo. still got 46mm to go on threads! yeehaw! but i dontt hink thats asdvisable at the moment.... cos lee ripped my exhaust off on Saturday afternoon so we had a mad rush to get it fixed.

nice car loz, looks real tidy. big respect to all mk1 owners, takes a lot of time effort and money to own one. thats why i have a trusty reliable mk3

i agree with speed humps too, i hate them i ripped my exhaust off last year, completely nackered it

I would say i spend more on maintenance than i do on fuel (this past 2 weekends excepted! as ive spent £100 on petrol alone!) She's a daily hack and i love her to bits. She just demands a direct ciphon off my bank account all the time! lol.

that mk1 is as tempremental, awkward and a pain in the arse as much as its owner

I like my tarantulas too but they are going eventually, when ive either got my Pslots sorted (top secret change of plans!) and my steelies powder coated!

except Last night she spat her dodie out BIG TIME! Shes only running on 2 or 3 cylinders when she feels like it, shes lurching about allover the place and the idles as erratic as god knows what! the whole engine moves back and forth and the gearbox was moving too last night resulting in lots of knocking and banging! tonight im gonna check all the HT circuit (providing my fingers dont drop off in the cold!) so ill try rule out leads, coil etc, my 1st thought was poor fuel, but then it would do it all the time, and my nex tthought was head gasket.......... but thers no mayo on the filler cap on either the rad or the rocker top! HEEELP my someone.

Oh todays started off so well!

The noise that he thought was my gearbox turns out to be..... *this is embarassing* me not tightening the wheel up enough after cleaning coilovers- i forgot u supposed to check after 50miles and retighten them!, so ive driven over 1000 miles with the "squeaking grind" worrying about it for nothing, he's retuned the carb and said that my headgaskets fine for now, but he will speak to me about doing it "on the side" rather than have to pay garage rates of £30ph plus VAT in the future as its the source of my oil leak!

i love that man!

and... its cost me NOTHING!! lol. ive just been without a car for 2 days!
AND WE CAN HAVE MONSIEUR as ive just had a small personal loan approved! GET IN!!!! WOOP WOOP!

so shopping list is:

Head Gasket change;
Buy Madame's new boyfriend;
Get at least one set of wheels refurbed;
See how much is left for retrim!! WAHOOOO!

Right finally got my arse into gear and got my wheels refurbed (did them all by myself too!!!)



niiiiice!! thats how they started life!! then i sanded, primered and sprayed them, and then put the 2 tone effect into use with rim protectors and hubcaps (not the right work i know but - BOVVERED!!)

and the end resut is a scrapey scrapey low looking



ta daaaaah the wheels arent perfect but i was rushed for time so they are good considering the time it took!
