So, set about replacing the whole front end underneath... (pics to follow)
Wishbones with poly bushes, ARB mounts, track rod-ends, ball joints, hubs, calipers and carriers, braided hoses, discs, pads, and a set of coilies...
It's nearly all together apart from one snapped bleed nipple in the caliper, a snapped fixed brake line (got caught in teh nut when undoing it and twisted it... Grrr!) and a lost hub bearing washer. Bloodything's vanished off the face of the earth! Do I actually need one...?
Anyway, like I said, it's nearly all done, then on to the rear end...
Will be like a new car when it's all done!

Got a replacement pump coming, so when it arrives I'll swap it over and see if that cures it.
Not working on it today. Having a break as I'll only rush it and break soemthing. Got to figure out how to extract a snapped brake bleed nipple...

Well, the old girl is looking a bit sorry for herself, so I thought I'd treat her to a small bit of bling while the front end is off and in bits... A Porsche glove-box lock cover. I think it was mainly to cheer myself up about it as I've run into a couple of niggly annoying problems... so got to keep my enthusiasm going!
I will have to remove it from the glovebox I bought and swap over the lock internals, but I reckon it'll look pretty cool with my Porsche steering wheel.
What do you think?
Oh... did I mention it cost me 99p + P&P...? A LOT different to £30 for the ones advertised on Edition! Thieving gypsy scum!

Erm, nope. Will take one tonight for you.
It's the 944 version... same as the one below. Had to take off the outer steering column spline collar to get it to fit. Worth it though. Looks great.

Unfortunately, Porsche never made a 4-door, so door handles are out for me! Rubbish.

It's arrived!
Might leave it till Saturday to have a play around with it. The Porsche lock cover needs a polish too.
New arches from Volkswagen coming too. Will be here Thursday. I can't get a decent set anywhere else!

New calipers arrived today.
Sick of the old ones... snapped bleed nipples, etc so I thought I've better get some new ones.
A lick of paint tonight and they'll be ready to go on.

So, here's some pics of the front-end re-build...
The work started here... wheels came off and then the rest...
The new coilies against the original shocks and 60mm springs...
...and the new bits n' bobs on the new wishbones
...and the complete build, with new 16v calipers (painted in VHT paint), with all new parts including braided hoses, poly bushes, discs, pads, ball joints, ARB monts, track rod ends, hubs, bearings, fixed brake lines, etc...
Unfortunatley you can see what little body damage there was from my 'incident' - dented lower front wing. That's all! Nothing the plastic arches won't cover for the time being...
No pics of the car yet, but will get some when the snow clears!
And of course, it drives MUCH better than before! (well, it did AFTER I had the track re-aligned!)

Not too bad actually. A bit bouncy, not as hard as I expected. Much better than the previous set-up though! Well worth the 160 big ones! You can't even buy a dodgy shock and spring set-up for that!

Yeah, they would Jez.
Ebay - special offer... 169 pounds... or best offer. I gave him 160 + P&P and they were here in two days.
Only downside is that I only got one spanner to adjust them with so it makes it difficult (not impossible) to lock them in place.

Also bought this... a stainless single pipe rear section. 15 quid. Nice.

Stainless rear box went on last night... now it sounds much better. Still an annoying quick rasp about 2500rpm, but that's from the deletion of the middle box... it was there before the new box went on. This makes it sound much deeper though. Well happy with my £15 bargain!
Trouble is, I want to keep planting my right foot to listen to the sound it makes!
