David... cheers for the offer of interior parts fella.

As much as I wanted to keep the interior in it's original blue, the guy I bought it off ripped it out, dumped it ( Suspect ) and actually replaced it with pre-90 GTi stuff... seats, doorcards (that are wrong as they have the wing mirror adjuster holes), carpet, shelf and supports, boot carpet and side panels, etc. Bit of a shame really as I wanted a blue and white theme.

I'm sure I'll be able to source some blue stuff from somewhere at some point, but it's not a real priority at the moment. Cool

Bit of an update... it's been a while.

It's now on it's 3rd interior... this time it's sporting a Corrado interior... with a flat rear bench. Wanted this version as it's less fussy and bloody comfy (not that I'll be sat in the back much!). I've also managed to source an early 3-spoke Porsche 924 steering wheel as a temporary measure.

Took advantage of my friend's new ramps last night and took the old girl out to Louth for a run. Having major problem with the oil light and warning buzzer coming on when it's warm though... if the revs aren't high enough, it's on continuously. Very strange.

So, it's now sat on the Mk3's old coilies with new top mounts (and it rides SO much better than the Mk3 ever did), temporary rims and new chrome bumpers front and rear. Looks a bit better now.

While it was up in the air, I did notice some rot that I wasn't aware of though (as well as the front wings and minor rear arch lip work...) nothing major, just one spot in the drivers-side-rear-upper-inner-arch (phew!) that needs attention. It's a tank-out job... Still, for being 22 years old, it ain't bad!

    Apologies for poop phone pics...

    Project White - Page 2 Golf_110

    Project White - Page 2 Golf_210

So, temporary rims for the time being till I get sorted with some lovely tucked splits... then it'll be a case of stripping it all down when the weather gets better to do the engine swap, etc... then in for some paint... then some 'other' stuff. No rush though... Wink

Took the old rear plate off this morning to fit the pressed plate on... and there's not a SINGLE spec of rust on it. It's truely amazing! Loving the front plate with it being so small!

The left hand screw snapped off though, so still got to remove that yet. Suspect

Drove really well on the way to work... can't wait to get really stuck in to it... anyone want a Jetta...?

Nope... not sorted the oil buzzer problem. Think I'm going to have to buy a new oil pump mechanism so I can use it in the short term... won't be a 1.3 for long though so I don't really want to spend any money on the engine at the moment... as long as the Jetta goes soon!

Managed to source a replacement set of really good genuine front wings for the old girl... in white!

    Result.

Ended up driving past a random industrial estate today near Wragby and there was an early white 5 door (1.6 auto) sat amongst a load of Beetles and Type 2's... so I pulled in and asked what was happening with it... "Breaking it for spares" he says...

    Excellent.

So next weekend I go back to pick them up, along with a few other spares I could do with as 'back-ups'. Nice guy... his name is Steve Mann and the company's called VW Classics in Bardney.

Oil pump, pump gasket and sump gasket have arrived, so hopefully the little problem with the oil pressure will be fixed soon and I'll be able to drive it further than 10 miles in one go!

    I'm so stupid.

Took the Golf to my mates unit to get it on the ramps to drop the oil, sink the sump and replace the oil pump...

So I drained the oil... was about to take the sump off when I realised I didn't bring the right oil with me or the correct oil filter. I'd brought the oil and filter I'd got to do Rachael's TT with... doh!

With that, Rach turns up in the TT, so I fill the Golf back up with the old oil, park it up and do Rach's car instead. So all wasn't lost.

Wednesday I'll be back on the Mk2 oil pump again. I'm so stupid.

There's quite a few other people with the same symptoms as me though... and no one really know what it is. Some are saying it's an electrical problem with the dash pod with it being old... but if that was the case, it would be doing it all the time... not just after 10 miles and at low revs.

Hopefully, a new pump and the correct grade of oil will sort it... new senders didn't!

    Cheers Andy.

Not sure what to do now though...

Been told from various sources that the symptoms I'm getting is caused by an electrical fault with the dashboard with it being old... so replacing the pump won't make any difference. Which is good as I've just been readin up on what's involved with replacing it, and it's a mini-nightmare to be honest.

I've got to research into the electrical fault and it's remedy, but still changing oil and filter tomorrow night anyway as a matter of course.

Yeah, I understand that... but then if it was electrical, or a connection fault, then the warning light / buzzer would be on all the time though... right?

Might have to take the dashpod out and see if I can see anything glaringly obvious that's wrong with it.

Giles get an oil presuure gauge set up and see what happens.

Thats what i did with the G when the tappets wouldn't shut up.the car started ok and the oil light never came on but i got a buzzer every now and then.wired up the oil pressure gauge and it was well down on pressure so i changed the pump and it sorted it straight away.

The pump isn't that big a job mate sounds worse than it is

normally if the oil pump buzzer comes on then its the pump or i think they have a sensor.. im not sure if a haynes manual would poss shed some help. you may have a short somewhere as well which is maybe the symptom.. just random things im throwing here mate as im not 100 per cent on it..sorry

blue and black wire on the side of the head is the low oil pressure warning and makes the buzzer and light go off.
